The reason I felt compelled to create “Tiny Pockets of Soulful Treasures” is to help you dig deeper into your layers of memories to excavate simplicity, inner beauty and connectedness. It promises to enable you to voice your innermost ideas and release powerful evocations so that you learn more about yourself and the world around you. The collection consists of 53 curated prompts which have been inspired by empowering quotes and nature. They aim to open your mind, unblock stagnated energy, invite curiosity and connect you with your inner child.
You can use the journal in different ways:
1) Snuggle up in your comfortable armchair and choose a random prompt to ponder on;
2) Take it on a walk and find a mighty tree to rest under and jot down your thoughts;
3) Explore a new cafe and pen what bubbles up over your favourite beverage;
4) Schedule some “Me time” once a week to meet your True Self. That’s why the book offers a prompt for each week, including a leap year.
I highly recommend taking a few minutes to quieten your mind before your self-exploratory practice. You could take a few deep breaths or perhaps listen to one of the eight bonus meditations or visualisations.
From the Introduction:
Millfield School, Street, England
20th August 2019
Standing in front of the cosy auditorium I quietly observe the group of English teachers who are attending my very first workshop “Using Mindfulness Tools in Modern Language Teaching”. After demonstrating how I apply mindful breathing techniques with my students to wake up their imagination, I invite them to give it a try. I play one of my mediations, read a writing prompt and off they start…They have ten minutes to write.
A few minutes later, pens are furiously scribbling, and I sense that creativity has snuck in and nestled beside each attendee. A curious sun ray peeks through the window and dances playfully on one of the notebooks. I wonder where my prompt, “Write about a time when a teacher made you feel seen,” has taken the educators.
Soon their time is up, and I encourage them to share their musings. To my surprise, one of them jumps up and says: “I’ve written a poem! Yes, I’ve written a poem!” Then she stands up and reads out a heart-warming piece of poetry about a time that a teacher called her “a beautiful rose”. Her eyes are glistening, and I can clearly see that little girl coming alive again. What a transformation. “I’ve completely forgotten about that moment”, the middle-aged woman explains, and dries a tear streaming down her left cheek.
*********
The truth is that I’ve seen this occur many times in my lessons and there’s a simple explanation. When we use the power of our breath to silence our busy mind, long-forgotten memories trickle into our consciousness. We are able to go deeper within our soul and download lost desires, sweet recollections and even dip into our future hungers…
